  1. Vanuatu 720 Pound Blue Marlin

Kiwi anglers David and Jim from Nelson, had a cracking day out with Captain Richard Moruk on the 3rd of September 2012. On a half day charter our of Port Vila Vanuatu, our crew managed to raise 3 Blue Marlin for the day with tagging one, jumping one off and landing a whopper 720 pounder! Both David and Jim both got to experience the fight and after an hour and a half fight, the decision was made to land the fish as it was as tired as the guys were! Not a bad trip for these very lucky fisherman as they had won their holiday and fishing trip in a draw! Congratulations guys on a nice fish!

Nevagivup has a new teak deck along with new under water gear as well. She is back in fine form once again and is ready to chase the next record! Angler LanceKenningham from Tasmania had two wishes when he chartered Nevagivup. The first one was to catch a Blue Marlin on conventional tackle, which he achieved on the first day along with some nice Mahi Mahi and Yellowfin Tuna. On the second day of fishing, Lance was on a mission to tag a Blue Marlin on 10Kg Fly tippet. Captain Charles Wheeler called the fish and crewman Russ Housby teased the fish right up to the back of the boat for Lance to cast his fly to; the tease and bite was text book and after a 40 minute fight, the tag was in, estimated weight was 50Kg. There have only been two people to catch Blue Marlin on fly in Vanuatu, one being the legendary Tom Evans and now Lance. This would also make Lance around 20 people in the world to catch a Blue Marlin on fly. Congratulations Lance!

Russell from Townsville Queensland was visiting Vanuatu to catch up with some of his family. Whilst on holiday here, he decided that he wanted to take the family out fishing for the day and he had one wish, to catch a Blue Marlin. After a 20 minute fight, the fish ended up tail wrapped and it was decided to bring the fish in to weigh. Congratulations Russell and we look forward to seeing you again next year. Mark from Melbourne was also on a mission and to celebrate his 50th birthday, all he wanted to catch was a Marlin. The day was mill pond with no wind, plenty of haze and very calm seas, we decided to head out to the FAD and we caught a couple of Skip Jack and live baited for about an hour to no avail. We then put the trolling gear back out and headed down south to Pango Bird, once in the area we raised two Striped Marlin and after one had a go at three lures, we got lucky and hooked up. After a 30 minute fight, the fish was beside the boat, unfortunately it was hooked in the eye and Mark wanted to bring it in. The fish weighed in at 85Kg, well done Mark and Happy 50th Birthday!

Nevagivup has just had the most awesome week fishing with Manuel from Germany. He was only targeting Billfish and only had one day without seeing one as we had to come in early due to rough weather conditions. The rest of the week he caught marlin everyday, some days seeing up to 5!! Plus Yellowfin Tuna’s up to 55kgs, Wahoo’s up to 22kgs and Mahi Mahi more than you could count. Fantastic week with great people.

Nevagivup has been on a roll, having some great fishing. On the back of a 80Kg Blue marlin which was caught on 8Kg line with angler AJ from outback QLD. AJ also landed some nice Yellowfin Tuna on 15Kg line too! Captain Charles Wheeler has been having sensational fishing for Black Marlin, Sailfish, some big Yellowfin Tuna along with some nice Wahoo. Fly fishing the last few days with Lance from Tasmania, they teased up Black Marlin, Sailfish and Wahoo. Today they tagged & released a 40Kg Sailfish by IGFA regs on 10Kg tippet. Congratulations Lance, a great fish! Thank you to Russ Housby who was the fly fishing guide, awesome job. Both boats out again tomorrow, bring it on!!
