The climate in Vanuatu is tropical, with a rainy and hot season from January to March. The Winter season, lasting from May to October, is relatively dry with cooler temperatures (25° daytime, 18° night time).

Visas and documents

Vanuatu immigration laws require that you have a return ticket and passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in Vanuatu.


The Vanuatu currency is the Vatu. Australian dollars and most credit cards are accepted in Port Vila.


English, French and Bislama are the official languages of Vanuatu.

There are no compulsory vaccinations and there is no malaria in Port Vila. There is some risk in remote parts of Efate and other islands. There are no dangerous animals, snakes or insects in Vanuatu. The water in Port Vila is safe for drinking.
